Horizon Air Pilot Development Program
Hawaii's First Full-Circle Pathway to the Flight Deck – Available at Pacific Flight Academy
Announcing Hawaii’s first Flight School/Airline Collaboration
Announced in February 2025, the Horizon Air Pilot Development Program (PDP) marks a groundbreaking milestone for aspiring aviators in Hawaii. As the only Hawaii-based flight school working with a major airline, Pacific Flight Academy (PFA) is proud to offer this program in collaboration with Horizon Air—a regional subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, which includes Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. This initiative keeps local talent rooted in the islands during training, providing a seamless, cost-effective path from zero time to a professional airline career. No more leaving Hawaii for flight training—build your wings here and fly home to serve your community.
Whether you're a high school graduate dreaming of the skies or a career-changer ready to pivot, the PDP empowers you with financial support, mentorship, and guaranteed opportunities. With over 430 students enrolled nationwide (as of the program's launch), this Hawaii-exclusive track is designed to address the pilot shortage while fostering homegrown talent.
Program Overview
Through its Pilot Development Program, Horizon Air provides a comprehensive pathway for students to embark on a successful career in aviation, with the potential to work for Horizon Air and possibly even Alaska Airlines. The Pilot Development Program offers a variety of benefits, including industry-specific classes that will enhance your knowledge and skills, as well as invaluable mentorship opportunities from experienced professionals in the field. Additionally, the program provides up to $12,500 in stipends to support your flight training journey, easing the financial burden and allowing you to focus on honing your piloting expertise. As you move through the program, there is the potential to receive a conditional job offer at Horizon Air as a First Officer; if selected you would commit to flying for two years at Horizon Air. Horizon Air boasts a fleet of state-of-the-art E175 airplanes, with bases conveniently located on the West Coast, providing an excellent environment for your professional growth.
Key highlights:

Financial Support: Receive up to $12,500 in stipends as you progress through your training. This is about 15% of your total training cost sent directly back to you!
Guaranteed CFI Job at PFA: Secure employment as a Certified Flight Instructor immediately after certification—build the required 1,500 hours while earning a competitive salary and mentoring the next generation.
Airline Pathway: Upon program completion and meeting Horizon's hiring criteria (e.g., 1,500 total hours), receive a conditional job offer at Horizon Air, operating their fleet of 44 Embraer E-175 jets from seven crew bases across the Pacific Northwest (Anchorage, AK; Boise, ID; Everett/Seattle/Spokane, WA; Portland/Medford, OR).
Pilot Mentorship & Networking: One-on-one guidance from Horizon Air captains, Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines pilots like Co-Founder Bobby Nikkhoo, and industry leaders. Attend exclusive events, job fairs, and simulator sessions. This mentorship is designed to make your transition to the airlines as smooth as possible and set you up for a successful career.
